Sheryl Zimmerman, PhD, is a University Distinguished Professor in the Schools of Social Work and Public Health, and Co-Director of the Program on Aging, Chronic Illness, and Long-term Care in the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is nationally recognized as a leader in research and dissemination related to care for persons with dementia based on her work developing and evaluating measures, collecting data, and testing interventions in nursing homes and assisted living communities across the U.S. Dr. Zimmerman worked closely with the national office of the Alzheimer’s Association to develop their 2018 Dementia Care Practice Recommendations, and co-authored two sets of the recommendations.
