Martiza DowlingMartiza Dowling, Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Research and Director of Research at Center of Aging Research and Humanities, George Washington University
Dr. Maritza Dowling is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Research at The George Washington University, School of Nursing. Dr. Dowling is also the Director of Research at the Center for Aging, Research and Humanities at George Washington University. Her research focuses on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) prevention, caregiving, and race/ethnic disparities in the incidence and diagnosis of dementia with an emphasis on methodologies that optimize outcome measures. Her most current work considers the design of measures that capture the ADRD caregiving experience and roles across diverse populations and changing family structures. Her methodological research has focused on measurement issues in the longitudinal assessment of health constructs and cognitive function in older adults and the application of novel statistical approaches to model the complex interplay between risk and protective factors in dementia development and biomarkers for disease prognosis. Along with her strong quantitative background, she has been the Principal or co-Investigator for National Institute on Aging and Alzheimer’s Association-funded studies leading to over 85 peer-reviewed publications in the areas of neuroimaging and biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease, ecologically valid cognitive assessment, and biomarkers for early detection of cognitive decline in older adults at risk for dementia.
